Someone Whose Inspiration Runs True and Deep

When I think of an inspirational person many things come to mind: strong-willed, hardworking, and overcoming obstacles. A picture comes to mind of a strong woman who always encourages everyone else and who may not get enough recognition for all the challenges she has overcome throughout the years.

For me, Rebecka Holman is an inspirational person since no matter what the given circumstances are, she always finds the strength within to surpass the struggles.

Holman plans on graduating in December of 2017 with her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with a minor in Criminal Justice. She plans on getting her Master’s Degree in Social Work, after graduating.

She chose Social Work specifically since this program gives her the opportunity to help people who have faced similar challenges and help them find ways to overcome them.

What Holman does not realize is, she is already helping people more than she will ever realize.

Holman broke her ankle while on a family vacation, and she lives several hours away from her family. These are two of the main struggles she is facing in her life.

What sets this 21-year-old apart from everyone else around her is she has found ways to exceed the limitations of the struggles she has faced. You may be wondering how exactly this particular college student inspires me?

First off, she is very strong-willed and her passion to never to give up runs deep. She never backs down from a struggle easily. Instead, she will give it all she has to make sure she surpasses the expectations set for her.

However like everyone, Holman also has her weak moments. One of those moments occurred during the summer of 2015 when she broke her ankle while on a family vacation—which in result—lead her to having to take a full semester online and being separated from her friends she made here at Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU) our freshman year of college.

She was heartbroken to find out she had to miss being on campus for one semester. This was s a bittersweet time for Holman because she was closer to her family, but she was farther away from her friends and her boyfriend at ENMU. This experience helped her build a stronger bond with her sisters, mom, and grandma.

Some other challenges she faced during these struggles were friendships being tested during this time. Which for me, my friends mean the world to me. I have no idea what I would do without them. For Holman and her friends, she has a similar take on her friendships. A song which comes to mind when thinking about how Holman inspires me is “Find Out Who Your Friends Are” by Tracy Lawrence.

One reason this song comes to mind is, if something ever happened, she would drop everything to help me in my time of need. Whether it would be through words of encouragement, praying for me, or just listening. I guess you can say we both learned a lot about friendship the fall 2017 semester.

One of thing is for sure, Rebecka Holman never seizes to inspire me no matter what the circumstances may be. She always tries her best to come up with good advice and not set low standards for her own life. She always keeps her chin up and never quits, even when she hits rock bottom, she still finds the courage and strength to continue facing the battle with everything she has.

To you, Rebecka Holman may be just another student attending ENMU, but to me, she will always be one of my best friends and a person who never seizes to inspire me through her hard work, dedication, and strong will.
