Luis Larios

Hello, How’s it going people?

My name is Luis Larios, I am a communication Graduate student here at ENMU. I grew up in Zacatecas Mexico, a place that at one point in history was the highest producer of silver. However, at the end of my seventh grade year of school my family and I moved to the United States, chasing the American dream.

Being the oldest son of my family, I was the one who got pushed to be the one to set the example, and with that having both my sisters achieve greatness in whatever they wanted to pursue as a career. Nonetheless, I also had the goal to be a college graduate, and after hard work and discipline to maintain this goal on track I finally achieved that goal, and now being a Graduate student it was a thing that at one point was too far to reach.

At this point in time, I am focusing on my studies, as well as finding different ways to improve and further my knowledge. ENMU has been a big part of the way my education has improved. With all of this help, I was able to find different hobbies now, and also enjoy the arts and sceneries of different events. Thanks to ENMU I broke out of a shell I did not know I had, and now I carry a camera around with me to capture different moments at any given time.

Nahida Akter

Hi readers,

My name is Nahida Akter, and I am a graduate student in Communication at Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU), where I continue to expand my passion for art, creative expression, and media studies. Originally, I am from Bangladesh which is a vibrant country in South Asia. I began my academic journey at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh where I earned my first bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Drawing and Painting.

After completing my degree, I got married and moved to Mississippi, U.S., where I lived for nine years and embraced the joys of motherhood, raising two children. During this period, I had to pause my artistic pursuits, but my love for art inspired me to return to the creative path. To continue my passion, I enrolled in a second bachelor’s program in Graphic Design at Jackson State University.

After that my family had to move to New Mexico and I transferred myself to ENMU, where I completed my second bachelor’s degree in art with a concentration in Graphic Design. My journey across countries and states has shaped my identity as a devoted artist committed to creating both visual artwork and creative writing.

Currently, I am focused on my graduate studies, paying special attention to critical thinking, public relations, news writing, photography, and digital art. Alongside my academic and artistic work, I enjoy cooking, traveling, and gardening which are the activities that continue to nurture my creativity and connection to the world around me.

Staff Writer

Amber Knox

Hello!

I’m Amber Knox, a writer and graduate student at ENMU. After earning my Bachelor of Communication with an emphasis in Broadcast Production, I spent over a decade in radio broadcasting, where I hosted a morning show under the name Amber Kaye with Duffy Moon. I also produced the show and commercials and served as the music director for Mix 107.5. Now, I’m channeling my love for exploring everything from history to entertainment into, hopefully, insightful articles for HoundBytes.

In my spare time, I’m a volunteer coach for a rural volleyball team of 9 girls, ages 4th to 6th grade. They keep me on my toes and up to date with what the kids are saying! I also enjoy writing fiction and am currently co-authoring a dark comedy mystery.

ENMU has a fantastic history and annual events for writers that inspire me. The father of science fiction, Jack Williamson, attended and taught at ENMU. His book Wonder’s Child inspired me to return to college as a non-traditional student. I highly recommend reading it even if you are not a sci-fi fan.

I hope you enjoy my articles!
