The Burning of Zozobra

The 90th Burning of Zozobra was held on Friday, August 29th at Fort Marcy Park in Santa Fe. More than 30,000 attendees vocalized their disdain for Zozobra (aka “Old Man Gloom”) by yelling, “Burn him!” His “trial” was surrounded with firework-filled ceremony as he was found guilty. Zozobra was taunted by the crowd, who wanted him to burn quickly. The pre-trial party was filled with the music of Nosotros to keep the attendees dancing. More than 50 vendors were there selling Zozobra merchandise, food, and drink.

At approximately 9:45 p.m. Zozobra was set alight and burned brightly to the cheers of the crowd.
