Portales is set to host its 46th annual Peanut Valley Festival. Every year, the Portales Chamber of Commerce prepares for one of Portales’ largest events of the year.

The Chamber’s Executive Director Karl Terry describes the festival as “one of the region’s best art and craft festivals.” Event coordinators are expecting nearly 100 booths at this year’s event, with vendors coming from far and wide to participate in the festival. Vendors range from franchises, to those who hand craft specialty items just for the festival. “There’s a variety of shopping to be had, and I think it’s the best place to get your Christmas shopping done early,” said Terry.

The Peanut Valley Festival has been going strong for 46 years, and every year brings new people and new events to Portales. “The idea is to have a festival that recognizes one of our signature agricultural products, and to bring people and vendors together,” said Terry. The festival will involve several events throughout, including the Peanut Olympics, Cornhole Tourney, and much more. There will also be several live performances on stage from acts like Higher Ground, Last Minute, and Michael Thompson.

The festival will open its doors on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 9 a.m. at the Roosevelt Country Fairgrounds and lasts until Sunday Oct. 20. There will be events for people of all ages from the time the festival begins all the way until the doors close on Sunday at 5 p.m. There are also live demonstrations including the Archangel K-9, Eastern New Mexico Taekwon-do, and the Fusion World Dancer’s performance. This historic event is a great chance to experience live music, view various demonstrations and celebrate the people and things that make Portales unique.
