It’s February and love is in the air. As Valentine’s Day approaches here are some ideas for a special day with your friends or Valentine.

  1. Order Takeout
Sometimes our lives are busy and we can spend most of our days away from home. After a long day of work or school, the last thing one wants to do is go home and prepare an elaborate dinner. Going out, especially on the busiest night of the year for restaurants, might not sound very fun either but if you want to relax without having to spend too much money, ordering takeout is a good idea. Get your food, set up a cozy fort, watch your favorite movie, or play board games/video games to add a bit of competition; this is a good and cheap idea, especially if the weather is cold.
  2. The Big Spender
The opposite of ordering takeout and staying in would be going out to a fancy dinner. If you are planning this, it might be wise to set some money aside in advance to be able to splurge a little without missing any financial obligations. You can dress up, go to your favorite restaurant and spend that bit of extra money to treat your special someone. Going out to a movie is another option, with an assortment of genres in theaters right now you don’t have to settle for a romantic movie to fit the occasion.
  3. Rockin’ Loving Country Dance Event by ASAB
If you like to get your boogie on and let loose, then it might be your lucky day. On Feb. 14, the Associated Students Activities Board (ASAB) will host the Rockin’ Loving Country Dance in the CUB ballroom at 8 p.m. A great way to have fun, meet new people and dance the night away, this event is free for students and faculty.
  4. On a Roll!
The roller-skating ring in Clovis, Roller World, will be open on Valentine’s Day. This is a good option if you want to be active and maybe try something new. It is a great opportunity to get out of your comfort zone, have some fun and make some memories. Roller World will be open from 7:00 p.m. until 10:30 p.m., normal admission is $9 but if you bring a date or friend you can get $2 off each admission.
  5. Going on a Picnic
Sometimes the weather can be unpredictable, especially in New Mexico. If it’s is warm enough out, having a picnic could be enjoyable. Set up a blanket on the grass, have some food prepared in advance and enjoy each other’s company. If the weather is good, there may be some views for cloud watching or stargazing.

Hopefully, these ideas will help you plan a memorable Valentine’s Day, even on a budget. On this holiday and every day, what matters is those we love and care about and that they know what they mean to us.
