Spring Time is Here!

March 19 was the first day of spring and with winter slowly coming to an end, the warmer weather makes its way in. Summer, winter, and fall had their moment and now it’s time for many people’s favorite season to shine (no pun intended). Here are five reasons why spring is the best time of the year.

Warmer Weather
After having to deal with cold temperatures and snow for months, it’s finally time to be comfortable outside and enjoy the weather. A good balance in temperature, it is not too hot where you’re sweating and it’s not too cold that you must layer up. Warmer weather also means change in the environment, which brings me to my next point.

Everything Turns Green
After spending the winter months watching many things in nature die and gray, spring is a time of vibrance and renewal. It’s a refreshing sight to see colors coming back and flowers blossoming; leaves return, plants begin to grow, and it’s easier to update your garden.

Easter
Easter is April 12 and while it is usually a fun time to spend with loved ones, coronavirus and the need for social distancing might change plans. On March 16 the White House recommended avoiding groups of over 10 people, with older individuals urged to stay home. Celebrating the holiday is not canceled and this outbreak doesn’t have to stop the fun. Many have an Easter egg hunt with candy and prizes or a grill outside to cook and eat in the nice weather. Whatever way you celebrate, it is something to look forward to even with the many changes we all have had to adapt to regarding the current situation.

Outdoor Activities
For months people have been forced to be indoors due to the cold weather and the sun going down at around 5:00 p.m. When spring comes it means comfortable weather and more daylight. On March 8, daylight savings took an hour of our sleep, but gave us the gift of more sunlight in the evening; one can still enjoy being outside after the draining nine to five. It’s perfect weather to exercise, go on walks and leave your windows open for the fresh air. According to a study done in 2018 by healthline.com, spending more time in the sun can have positive impacts such as boosting your mood, helping your memory and much more.

Finishing the Semester
The spring semester comes to a close in May and makes a transition for the summer. Considering everything that has happened due to the global pandemic, this year will look different. More and more states are calling for a shelter in place to reduce the spread of the virus causing graduations to be postponed or canceled. Although this is a huge bummer for seniors and families, it is important to not let it bring you down. Finishing the semester or graduating is a great milestone in life and all students should be proud of their hard work. Even though many of us won’t be able to walk in the ceremony, we owe it to ourselves to celebrate this achievement.

Just because most of us are staying at home to do our part to stay safe and healthy, we can still enjoy spring and the beauty it brings. Health officials are allowing people to get outside for activities, which is a great opportunity to enjoy the great weather. Don’t let this time get the better of you, we will overcome it together.
