Avengers Age of Ultron Movie Review

By Andres Aguirre

There is nothing like doing your part in stopping the spread of COVID-19 by staying home and watching movies. Since the launch of Disney+ in Nov. 2019, many people have rewatched movies and shows released from previous years. Disney+ has a lot to offer, which includes movies and shows from Disney, Marvel Studios, Star Wars, Pixar, and National Geographic.  This streaming service is great especially while being quarantined at home.

This time I went back and watched “Avengers Age of Ultron”; Even though came out in 2015, it’s still entertaining one. When this movie first came out, many Marvel fans andpeople who enjoy comic books were beyond excited, including myself. The fictional comic book heroes coming to life on the big screen felt unrealistic and takes you back to when you were a kid. Without further ado, let’s dive into this movie.

The film begins with the Avengers engaged in battle trying to find a scepter with unknown powers from the previous movie in the Avengers series.. They are at a Hydra hideout fighting multiple bad guys side by side and Iron Man/Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) enters the base and finds the scepter when encountered by Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen). Before they met, Wanda was being experimented on by Hydra and had evolved powers from the scepter. She plants a vision in Iron Man where he sees his fellow Avengers dead and Earth being invaded by aliens. He comes back to reality and takes the scepter back to their headquarters with his team. He decides to run tests to make something to help the Avengers protect the Earth from alien intruders without telling his team It backfires and he accidentally creates an artificial intelligence robot that wants to destroy the world named Ultron (James Spader).

Soon after, the team has conflict since they blame Tony for creating something destructive, but They decide to go after Ultron and attempt to stop him. Somewhere in Africa, They find Wand and her twin brother, Pietro Maximoff (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) have joined Ultron. After some fighting, Wanda implanted bad visions in the heads of all the Avengers except Iron Man and Hawkeye/Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner).

As Hulk/Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) is dealing with a bad vision implanted by Wanda, he causes destruction in a nearby city. Iron Man goes to stop him with new armor, the Hulkbuster armor; This  moment is epic in comic book history. Finally, the Hulk is knocked out by Iron Man and the team reassembles after  their defeat. They go to a hidden safehouse, which turns out to be Hawkeye’s house and After spending time together, they unite and go after Ultron again.

At this point Ultron is attempting to make a new body for himself to become stronger. The Avengers take the new body from Ultron and  bring it to Tony so that he inserts his other artificial intelligence, Jarvis (Paul Bettany) into it. With the help of Bruce Banner and Thor (Chris Hemsworth), they create Vision who is the physical form of Jarvis. Before they go to fight Ultron again, the Maximoff twins switch to the Avengers side because they find out Ultron wants to destroy the planet.

The Avengers go to battle Ultron one last time but by this time Ultron has created many other robots to go against the Avengers. His plan is to lift a big chunk of Sokovia, the city where the Maximoff’s were born, and throw it back down to the earth like a meteor. In an action-packed final battle, the Avengers come together, destroy Ultron and save the day again.

This movie is definitely amusing and full of action and funny moments. It sets up future Marvel movies nicely by hinting at the imminent and significant villain Thanos in “Infinity War” and the highest grossing movie in the world, “Avengers Endgame”.

I like the film and it has good action scenes, even though some parts can be cliché. After so many Marvel movies it seems they use the same plot. They are good, then have conflict and still save the day in the end without any consequences. It seemed to work for a few movies but can be a little repetitive especially with the amount of films Marvel has made.  Later “Infinity War” breaks that tradition and incorporates a different theme which it stand out from the rest.             If you’re at home and not sure what to watch, give this movie another watch and enjoy it. In the end, you’re watching comic book characters come to life in a live action movie, what can be better than that?
