How to Finish the Semester Strong

By Andres Aguirre

We are in the final stretch of the 2019-2020 academic schoolyear and things can get stressful. The last few weeks of school are busy, and it will look a lot different for students this time around due to COVID-19. While students are dealing with this global pandemic and the effects of it, we also worry about staying on top of classes. If you are worried about the little time left in the semester and the many assignments due, here are some tips to help you.

Be Organized
This can be easier said than done. Since classes have transferred to online only, it can be easy to have a cluttered mind and forget things. Writing things down in your planner or notes can help you untangle your thoughts and give you peace of mind. It is also important to manage your time well; schedule your day so that you get things done and still have time to relax. Make sure you have a good sleep schedule so that you are well rested and can perform at the top of your game.

Get Help
Sometimes we get in the way of ourselves when we don’t reach out for help, we need to succeed and that can lead toto do doing poorly in classes. It is crucial that you understand assignments, tests or projects so that you are well prepared for them. Ask your professor and fellow classmates if you have any questions about anything. Your professors are there to help you so take advantage of it and if you do reach out for help, make sure it is ahead of time so that you get a response and have time to plan.

Study Ahead of Time
This is important because it can mean a difference for your grade and whether you pass a class or not. Don’t wait until the last minute to study because it usually will not work to your benefit and is likely to cause more stress and lower your chance to do well. Due to COVID-19, we are restricted to stay at home but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a study group. You have the option to call peers or have a Zoom meeting to study for classes. Some might have more free time than others, but it is important to always set time aside dedicated to studying.

Be Positive
The last few weeks can take a toll on you and put you down, but it is vital to remember to be positive. If you keep in mind that school is almost over, then it can keep you going strong. Your attitude affects your performance and productivity and no matter the circumstance, you have the choice of what your attitude is going to be so why not make it a positive one?

We are almost at the finish line. Hopefully, these tips help you succeed during your academic journey and remember, there is light at the end of the tunnel. Finish strong and take the last few weeks of school head on.
