  1. Tell us a little about yourself:
I am from Chihuahua, Chihuahua Mexico moved to the U.S. in 2007 at the age of nine and went to Floyd Municipal Schools until I graduated in 2015. I am a proud son of immigrant parents. I have two jobs right now, one which is already part of what I’m going to school for. I work for a Spanish record label, Garmex Music LLC as part of their editorial staff team; I am a content creator for their YouTube page where it has over 400K subscribers one of my many task in this job is to be consistent with the page as well as writing press releases for their artist as they release new content and overall office work, I work about 25-30 hours a week with them, but I am also working at a local restaurant at night. I started off as a Cashier and Server and now I am a shift leader there where I work about 30-40 hours a week. I am one of the busiest persons because despite the fact of working all the time I’ve managed to get involved on campus as a member of the ENMU Cheer team for 3 years (sophomore, Junior and Senior year), Kappa Sigma Fraternity member 1 year (Sophomore year), SACC member 1 year (Senior Year) and ENMU Spanish Club member for all 4 years, 2 in which I served as president of the club. Where other people play video games as their hobbies, mine are either working out, hanging out with friends and staying on top of things for my organizations.
  2. What are your plans post-graduation?
After graduation I plan to move to either Dallas or San Antonio Texas area, both in which have great opportunities for first entry level jobs in the journalism field where I could begin as an intern to gain the experience I need for my dream job while I’m going to grad school.
  3. Do you plan on going to grad school? If so, where? And to study what?
Yes, my options are UIW or UTSA for a Public Relations focus in Social Media Marketing.
  4. What is your dream job? Why?
My dream job is to become a well-known journalist working for Univision. Growing up I remember watching the news with my parents all the time and I always loved watching the different stories on there not just the content but how the story was told and how well done the news package was. Most journalist set their goal to be an anchor for news, but I want to be that one person out in the field bringing back my work to show the world.
  5. What is one thing that you’ve learned from the university?
It would be hard to name just one thing. I am not the same person I was in high school. The university has thought be how to be more responsible, how to manage my time better but most importantly it has raised my confidence level to the top and now more than ever I feel prepared and more confident to enter a professional job.
  6. What is some advice that you would give upcoming students?
Even if you don’t know what you want to do with your life go to college for at least 2 years and get your associates. I changed my major about three times maybe more, I even took a year off, but at the end of the day, college is where you find yourself and make things happen.
  7. Who was your favorite professor at ENMU? Why?
I have two who have really made an impact in my work over the years. Gloria Jurado and Ed Caffrey. I have always loved the in-person classes because they practice critical thinking like no other. Professor Gloria would always make references to the lectures with relatable stuff in the world making it interesting to the class by using music videos, movies and even memes or stuff from social media. My Favorite class I took with her was a grammar class because she would always know a way to get the point across adding some humor to the lecture which made us stay engaged in the lecture. Professor Ed also makes references to what is happening and adds some humor to his lectures. When it comes to big assignments they both take the time to explain exactly what they need from us and once we get it back they both make the time to talk to each of us individually to see if we have questions and to help us improve on our weak areas.
  8. What’s your best memory at ENMU?
My best memory at ENMU has to be the friendships I have made. The ENMU Spanish Club will forever hold a special place in my heart and I will always cherish that because thanks to the university I have made friends from all over the world and that is not something a lot of people can say.
  9. Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?
Five years from now I see myself having the experience I need to obtain that dream job.
