Police Brutality and Racism

Topics that are prominent in today’s society, are police brutality and racism. This has been taking place for some time now. Our law enforcement system was never meant to protect those who have black or brown skin. The black lives matter movement has been around for many centuries since slavery.

Certain police officers who are being hired do not care about black lives. This has been proved time and time again. We as a whole are losing black lives left and right. Peaceful protests aren’t enough, because if they were, we would not be where we are today.

All 50 states have demonstrated that the black community and allies are tired by taking action. Petitions are being signed, rioting is happening, peaceful protests are taking place also, but the people are tired. Black bodies are not disposable, and we are not going be silent anymore.

All lives do matter, but at this time we are focusing on the black lives that need justice. The world seems to be full of hate. We need a leader that will recognize our voices. The list goes on and on when it comes to black lives that were taken by police officers or racists in the past. Not one of those police officers or killers were viewed as murderers. Police officers are supposed to protect and serve justice. How can we put our trust in them if they are murdering our brothers and sisters for no reason?

The issue is that there will always be an excuse as to why a black man or woman has been shot or suffocated. The racist perpetrator, even if it is a cop, will not be charged. Racism is taught in a household; one is not born with it. People fail to educate themselves on what is actually going on in the world and its history. The media portrays black people as dangerous, evil people.

Justice needs to be served to the police officers and racist people that have taken black lives, just because of the color of their skin. In videos of these protests all around the globe, it is clearly demonstrated that white people are standing in front of black people to avoid them being shot. What kind of world is that? Some policemen only see color, not all, but most of them do. That is one of the biggest problems faced today.

I look at these people who have been murdered and think, this could have been me, my girlfriend, my dad, stepdad, brother or family member and I pray that my future child does not have to go through this when the time comes. The black community is tired and demands a change and equity. Many people have shown their true colors throughout this revolution. Some were seen as close friends, but racism continually outweighs love in this battle.
