In May of 2019 the world of Game of Thrones ended with a shocking and unsatisfying conclusion which left an everlasting bad taste in the mouths of fans.

The show was a global spectacle running for 8 seasons from 2011-2019. Based on the Fire and Ice series of books written by George R.R. Martin, Game of Thrones was inspired by The War of Roses, A series of civil wars fought over control of the English throne in the mid-to-late fifteenth century, fought between supporters of two rival cadet branches of the royal House of Plantagenet: Lancaster and York. The series featured an ensemble cast of actors spread throughout the fictional Realm of Westeros. Political Intrigue as well as war, violence, and sex were the main themes of the series which took full advantage of the freedom offered by HBO.

When the series ended in 2019, fans were left unsatisfied in part to an objectively unsatisfying ending. The world of Westeros had potential to become a massive franchise. A failed spinoff titled “Bloodmoon” never made it past the pilot. HBO had previously been developing another spinoff based on the book “Fire and Blood”, an account of the Targaryen Civil war named The Dance of Dragons. The book was an account of the battle for the iron throne fought by two dragon riding factions of House Targaryen. Small details of the Dance were often mentioned in Game of Thrones. After the cancellation of “Bloodmoon”, “House of the Dragon” immediately received a full series order.

Daenerys Targaryen and her Dragons was a major highlight of the original series. “House of the Dragon” is set to become the franchise that will bring the world of Westeros back into the forefront of pop culture. After the disappointing finale of Game of Thrones, the only way to go is up. Get ready to hear the Targaryen motto “Fire and Blood” because it’s coming”.
