As Halloween approaches, Eastern New Mexico University continues a tradition that connects the campus with the Portales community: Trunk-or-Treat. The family-friendly event has become a memorable way for local children, families, students, and university employees to celebrate the season together.
Unlike traditional trick-or-treating, Trunk-or-Treat events feature decorated vehicles lined up in a safe location where children can collect candy and enjoy creative Halloween displays. Past ENMU Trunk-or-Treat celebrations have brought community members to campus for an evening of costumes, treats, and Halloween fun.
For ENMU students, the event offers an opportunity to give back to the community while showcasing Greyhound pride. Student organizations, campus groups, and volunteers often play an important role in creating a welcoming atmosphere for children and families. Through decorated trunks, costumes, and seasonal activities, participants help transform the campus into a festive Halloween destination.
The tradition also reflects ENMU’s commitment to community engagement. As a university that values connection and service, events such as Trunk-or-Treat help strengthen relationships between the campus and the families of Portales. Children have the chance to visit the university in a fun and approachable setting, while students gain opportunities to interact with community members outside the classroom.
Beyond candy and costumes, Trunk-or-Treat creates lasting memories. It brings together generations of Greyhounds and local residents, reinforcing the welcoming spirit that defines the ENMU community. During a busy academic semester, the event also provides students with a chance to enjoy the holiday season while contributing to a positive experience for others.
As Halloween arrives each year, ENMU’s Trunk-or-Treat tradition serves as a reminder that college campuses can be places not only of learning but also of community, service, and celebration. Through events like these, the university continues to foster meaningful connections while creating a fun and safe environment for families throughout the Portales area. 🎃🐾
