By: Kendall Schneider

Need some Christmas gifts that cost little to no money? I know that I love to give gifts that don’t cost much. Besides, it’s the thought that counts! Here is my list of ten Christmas gifts for a tight budget:

  1. Give the gift of experiences: Create coupons for things like “A coffee date” or “Movie Night.”
  2. A housekeeping card: Is there a chore that your roommate, family member, or significant others HATES to do? Make them a coupon that gives them a day off.
  3. Set of letters: Write a set of different letters for someone you love. You can label them with things like, “For when you’re having a bad day” or “When you need to know you’re loved,” etc.
  4. Bake cookies: If you want an easy and affordable gift for friends and neighbors, Christmas cookies are the way to go. Everyone loves them!
  5. Personalized mug: You can buy inexpensive mugs almost anywhere from Wal-Mart to a dollar store. Just make sure that it is microwave and dishwasher safe. Decorate a mug with an oil-based paint sharpie and bake the mug for 30 minutes at 250 degrees. If you want give a little more than just the mug, try filling it with the person’s favorite candy or tea!
  6. Homemade sugar scrub: Do you need a gift for your mom, sister, or friend? A homemade sugar scrub is a cheap and thoughtful gift! All you need is some white sugar, coconut oil, and whatever scent you want. There are many different recipes online to try.
  7. A movie basket: Go to Wal-Mart and choose a movie from the five-dollar bin. Then you can fill a small box with the movie, popcorn and candy. It is a simple and fun gift!
  8. A painting: Do you know your friend or relative’s favorite quote or song? Paint a canvas with their favorite color and write or paint the quote onto it. There are lots of ideas for this on the internet as well. It’s a great and meaningful gift!
  9. Hot chocolate jar: Fill a mason jar with hot chocolate mix. You can top it off with marshmallows and chocolate chips. Create a tag with a label and instructions.
  10. A candle: Candles are a great affordable gift. Choose the person’s favorite scent, or one that is specifically for Christmas time. Stick a bow on the top and tie a tag around it.
