History of The Dallas Cowboys

By Jessica Campbell

Within the National Football League (NFL) there are 32 teams that compete to be the best. My personal favorite professional team is the Dallas Cowboys, which was the first NFL team to have a modern-era expansion. Before the team was officially known as the Dallas Cowboys, they started out being the Dallas Steers then later changed it to the Dallas Rangers. The team name then changed once again so there wasn’t any confusion with the baseball-team, the Dallas Rangers.

Unfortunately, the team went through rough times in the beginning. It wasn’t until 1966 that the team had a winning season (10-3-1), which sent eight players to the Pro Bowl. This year also marked the start of the NFL record for eight consecutive postseason appearances in the playoffs. However, the Dallas Cowboys later went on to break their own record by making a consecutive appearance nine times within the years of 1975 and 1983.

In 1970, the team made their first Super Bowl appearance but lost to the Baltimore Colts (now known as the Indianapolis Colts), 16-13. The following year, the Dallas Cowboys managed to return to the Super Bowl gaining better luck than the prior year, beating the Miami Dolphins for their first Super Bowl victory. Their success didn’t stop there, the Dallas Cowboys went on to win the Super Bowl in years 1977, 1992, 1993 and 1995. Making it a total of five Super Bowl wins and eight total appearances.

However, in the last few years, the momentum has slowed down almost to a complete stop. For example, this past season (2020) the Cowboys finished with a 6-10 record and an 8-8 record the year before. Hopefully, there will be a positive turning point taking place soon and we will see the Dallas Cowboys back in the Super Bowl becoming victorious once again.
